About Us:

Tahoe Creamery traces its roots back to one of the most beloved family restaurants and creameries in New England, The Shady Glen of Manchester, Connecticut. The Hoch family began producing high quality gourmet ice cream at their Shady Glen Dairy Farm in 1948. Since then their customers have been traveling for miles, and now for generations, to savor what the New York Times described as “five star offerings” and what Esquire Magazine hailed as “one of the top five burger and ice cream restaurants in America.”

In 2000, Greg Hoch moved to Northern Nevada to continue the family tradition. He started Tahoe Creamery and began wholesaling his delicious gourmet ice cream to local restaurants. The Carson Valley Inn in Minden and Grandma’s Fudge in Virginia City were, among many other appreciated outlets, enthusiastic supporters of the fresh and all natural quality of Tahoe Creamery’s hand crafted masterworks.

In 2007, with a valued core of key customers clamoring for wider distribution, it was time to expand Tahoe Creamery. But it could only grow so much. . .

Tahoe Creamery’s gourmet ice cream is made in small, quality controlled batches. To achieve the freshness and purity of our namesake, Lake Tahoe, we must craft our offerings using only the finest, all natural ingredients in limited runs. It takes time to produce our super premium ice cream. We are glad to do it this way. And, in fact, it is the only way for us to achieve our goal of “Keepin’ it Pure”.

We realize that there are many excellent ice cream producers across America. But in the last twenty years there has been a consolidation of companies such that ice cream is no longer made locally. Instead, it is produced in large factories and shipped by truck over many interstate miles to your town. This new model for distribution is not kind to the environment. It relies on the extra cost and usage of fossil fuels to deliver the ice cream to you.

By contrast, Tahoe Creamery is made locally and sold locally. We do not ship our product thousands of miles away, adding extra cost and darkened skies to your ice cream. We feel our ice cream is of a superior quality than other choices available. We are confident you will too.

We appreciate your support and enthusiasm for Tahoe Creamery. As always, your comments and suggestions are always welcome. (To do so click here.)

Once again, we are pleased to have you with us.
